You may be interested to learn that this vessel was stopped outside Hong Kong by a Japanese Destroyer and it is understood it was taken to Hainan, and subsequently arrived in Hong Kong, were six of the crew, composed of the Chief Officer, third officers, wireless operator and three apprentices, were taken from the ship and left in a civillian camp at Stanley, Hong Kong. The remainder of the officers and a Japanese crew, which was taken on in Hong Kong left on the ship fot Japan, and are now prisoners of war in Japan.
When the vessel was stopped. it is thought that the Captain was completely unaware that war had been declared.
The writer, who was repatriated on M S Gripsholm, obtained this information from one of the repatriates from Hong Kong, and the information is as reliable as he thinks possibly can be obtained.
